From Daniel Chateigner:
Applications are invited for a position as Full Professor, Professor with special responsibilities or as Associate Professor at the Aarhus University Center for Integrated Materials Research (iMAT, http://www.imat.au.dk). The deadline for application is December 1st, 2018, and the position is open for appointment from January 1st, 2019.
The deadline for submitting a proposal for a PhD project is:
midnight Friday 2 November 2018
PhD projects satisfying the criteria for the academic in-house mission of the
ILL’s PhD program are put into competition via a transparent selection process.
Project selection is a two-stage procedure involving evaluation by in-house
review panels and decisions by the ILL directors.
Notification of short-listed projects will be sent out around mid January 2019.
Final selection will take place on 5 February 2019, when the ILL supervisors of
the short-listed projects are invited to defend the project via a presentation.
Scientific excellence is the main selection criterion. However, other criteria
will also play a role in the selection process of PhD projects:
–> How well the submitted project contributes to the main mission of the
ILL PhD program, namely to enhance the academic life at the ILL while
simultaneously training future experts in neutron science.
–> How well the PhD proposal helps ILL scientists to strengthen their scientific
profile by knitting close ties with the user community. The ILL co-supervisor
should therefore play an important role in the definition of the project.
–> In addition, the ILL management has to make sure that a proper balance
is achieved in terms of scientific topics, ILL instrumentation groups, as well as
the national distribution of host universities corresponding to the PhD proposals.
–> Finally, a student candidate may be proposed for the submitted PhD project,
in which case the student’s CV and cover letter should be attached to the email
sent to phd(at)ill.fr along with the other application documents. Although NOT a
prerequisite for a valid PhD proposal, a strong student candidate would be a plus,
albeit not a guarantee, for acceptance of the PhD project. Full consideration will
be given to PhD proposals not containing a student candidate according to
the criteria listed above.
Please follow carefully and fully the application instructions at:
Thank you for your interest in the ILL’s PhD programme,
— The ILL Graduate School

Job Posting Title
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Quantum Materials / NB50689614
End Posting Date
The Neutron Scattering Division (NSD) in the Neutron Sciences Directorate at ORNL operates 30 instruments to study a diverse range of materials using elastic and inelastic neutron scattering, small angle neutron scattering, neutron reflectometry and neutron imaging techniques. Instruments are located at both HFIR and SNS. Scientific research areas include quantum materials, soft matter and polymers, catalysis and interfacial chemistry, materials and engineering, biological materials and systems and applications of computing, modeling and data analytics to analysis of neutron scattering data. This is an excellent opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team that performs experiments, high performance computing, and theory.
The Neutron Scattering Division has an immediate opening for one postdoctoral associate to support a project to study collective phenomena in quantum materials and to probe quantum entanglement using neutron scattering and ultra-high-resolution neutron spectroscopy techniques. This position represents an excellent opportunity to study quantum matter in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
* Studying quantum materials in frustrated magnetic materials by neutron scattering and ultra-high resolution neutron spectroscopy techniques. * Publishing scientific papers and presenting results from this research at national and international meetings as appropriate. * Ensuring compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements * You will be expected to commit to ORNL’s Research Code of Conduct by holding yourself and others to the highest scientific, professional, and ethical standards in a manner that fosters mutual respect and enhances the reputation of the individual researcher, his/her colleagues, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in its mission to address the Department of Energy’s and the nation’s scientific and technical challenges.
* A PhD in physics, applied physics, material science, or a related discipline completed within the last five years.
* Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate research results in peer-reviewed publications.
* Background in neutron and/or x-rays scattering methods to study condensed matter.
* Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels and in multi-disciplinary teams
Please provide a CV and a list of publications when applying for this position. A minimum of 2 letters of reference are
required and can be uploaded to your profile.
The date of your application must be within 5 years of the most recent degree, and all degree requirements must be complete before starting the appointment. Certain exceptions may be considered. This position is a temporary, full-time assignment for 24 months.
